Buy our Mandala Dotting Kit that contains all the material you need to get started!

Preparation Work

STEP 1

Paint a base coat on your rock of choice and let dry. Consider black or navy blue, depending on your color scheme.

STEP 2

Choose a pattern and practice on paper before starting your Mandala pattern on your stone. Also, test color combinations along with your design to see what you like.

STEP 3

Once you’re happy with your paint color selection and pattern, let the dotting process begin!

DOTTING PROCESS

Begin with a dark color

STEP 2

Place a big dot in the center

STEP 4

STEP 5

Each row is a bit bigger dot

STEP 6

Leave small gaps between dots

STEP 7

Fill your entire dark circle with dots

STEP 8

Make the last set of dots half across the edge

STEP 9

Fill all gaps with bigger and smaller white dots

STEP 10

STEP 11

Make ornaments with white dots

STEP 12

Add more dots where you like :)

Dot mandalas are addicting once you get started. There’s no exact right or wrong pattern to use. The key is to try and keep things symmetrical even if you are working on a nonsymmetrical rock.

You can use this example as inspiration, but don’t feel that this is the only way to make mandalas. Experiment with dot placement, patterns, and even where you start your mandala.

When creating mandalas, you don’t always have to start exactly in the center of the rock. Play around with starting the center dot in different places. You can also try using smaller dots in a different color placed between larger dots or more variation.
